Check out Line's blog on all things singing!
Line has been involved in music as an instrumentalist and singer for 30 years and has clocked up over 15 years of experience teaching singing in the UK, Australia and USA. This includes teaching individuals, groups, master classes, private music schools and summer programmes. Line is a registered general nurse and holds a degree in Music Education (Jazz) from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
As a performer Line has performed in Australia, UK and USA and been involved in many genres and settings including jazz, pop, classical, music theatre, samba. She has sung with jazz, gospel and classical choirs as a chorus member and a featured soloist, in big bands, with her own quartets, trios and duos as well as being cast in musical theatre and light classical shows.
Not being totally satisfied with her own vocal control and realising she was ill equipped to teach voice with any authority, Line decided to go in search of a vocal technique that was relevant to the contemporary voice. Eventually her search lead her to Speech Level Singing (SLS). As soon as Line tried the SLS exercises she new she had found what she was looking for. In 2001 she started her teacher training which continued until she reached level 4 certification (highest level being level 5). For personal reasons she decided to resign from the organisation and discontinue with the SLS certification process at the start of 2011. She continues to teach a balanced vocal technique helping singers to strengthen their voice, bridge the gaps, balance air/muscle use and sing with ease throughout the range.
In 2006 Line was very fortunate to be invited to do a series of guest lectures and tutorials at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM). This lead on to a regular tutor position at the school and eventually in April of 2008 she was asked to take on the role of head of vocals. This role allowed Line to develop a contemporary vocal curriculum that incorporated good vocal technique combined with musicianship, style and performance skills across courses that spanned part-time, BTEC, Cert HE and Degree levels. It also gave Line the opportunity to better understand artist development and the music industry as it is today. Seeing a gap in the market for singers who did not wish to attend FE or HE courses Line decided to refocus on her private work so she left ACM in 2011 to return to Sing Vocal Studio and set up Shed Light Events -inspired learning for singers.
